Star in the East

Scripture Matthew 2:1-2: There came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he (the child) that is born King (the Messiah) of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Interpretations: for we have seen his star [while we were] in the east, and are come to worship him. for we have seen his star [which was] in the east, and are come to worship him. My Understanding: The first is the way I read it and implies that they saw the star in the west while they were in the east. Whereas, the second says that the star was in the east with them. Scripture Matthew 2:9-10: When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Interpretations: When they had heard the king, they departed; and [now let us explain how they got to this point], lo, the star, which they

Provident Living - Physical Health

It is hard for you to live an abundant life which can provide for others if you are not self-reliant. It is hard to be self-reliant if you are not healthy. It is hard to be healthy when you don't know how. Health Why is physical health so important? Let's look at the big picture. God's Purpose ( Moses 1:39 ) Prerequisites Requirements Immortality Mortality Body Eternal Life Earth Life Community (Body of Christ) We are concerned with the health of the body because it is something that we will always have and we must learn to use it wisely. It is the first gift that God has given us on this earth. Let's look at the creation of health by following the pattern that God has given us in the creation of the world: Creation of the World ( Gen 1:1- 2:3 ) Creation of Health Planet - Heaven and Earth ( Gen 1:1-5 ) G roundwork - Spirit and Body Firmament ( Gen 1:6-8 ) E n

Church Mission Thoughts (Jun 2013)

Last night I was reading President Eyring's talk in the last priesthood session " We are One " and the Lord has been inspiring many thoughts. The bishop oversees all the government of the ward but has a couple special focuses: Aaronic priesthood, missionary work, worthiness, and physical welfare. It seems like Aaronic priesthood can be connected to the other three. The bishop should delegate, as appropriate, to the Aaronic priesthood holders active participation in teaching the gospel, committing people to obey commandments and support those in need. This would also prepare them better to serve full time missions. Teaching, committing and serving should be second nature habits before they enter the mission field. I was also thinking about the concept of strengthening the core. The wards that have the most love appear to me to be the ones which grow the fastest. So, I think that missionary work should only proceed in balance with the other missions of the church. We s

Philosophy, Art then Science

I love finding patterns. In life, I have found many patterns; patterns for how things are made, how things are done, etc. One pattern that I have found in many places I call a ‘set of three . ’ This pattern takes many forms but is fundamentally the same. 1) The first item is the most fundamental of the three and is a precursor to the second. 2) The second item is central to the set of three, is a precursor to the third, and connects the first and third, usually through action. 3) The third is the culmination and completion of the set, often the refining or perfecting of the set. At a school assembly two quarters ago Dr. Riekeman (president of Life University) showed a TEDx talk by Simon Sinek called “How great leaders inspire action . ” Simon shows a pattern which he calls ‘the golden circle’ of human motivation. He draws three circles, one inside the other. The center circle has ‘Why’, the middle circle has ‘How’, and the outer circle has ‘What’. He insists that the order is vi

1000 Cervical Quick Scans

I want to share a goal that I made using the SUCCESS principles that I presented in December. I made a goal to do 1000 cervical quick scans which are used by chiropractors to determine if there are any joint problems in a person's neck. I made this goal on Wednesday February 20th first thing in the morning: State your Purpose : Do 1000 cervical quick scans before the end of the school quarter to increase my motion palpation skills. Understand your Vision : I want to start building my future chiropractic business today by talking to people I don't know so I can build up my confidence and prepare to do the same thing in the future. I want to recruit my own patients for student and out patient clinics, as well as my future practice. I also want to publish my goal in the Vital Source to prepare for publishing research in the future. Confirm your Commitment : I will start my morning by asking people in my first class. I will stop people I don't know. I will print off a sig

The Process of Healing

Last week I created a new set of seven I call the process of healing. I created it after the process of repentance and the set I showed last week from the story of the Good Samaritan . Process of Repentance Process of Healing Luke 10:34 Recognize Awareness of injury And went to him, Regret Swelling and bound up his wounds, Remove Blood (nutrients) pouring in oil Report White blood cells (disinfects) and wine, Restore Platelets (scabbing) and set him on his own beast, Replace Rebuild (scaring) and brought him to an inn, Remit Function properly and took care of him. The process of healing is the body's ability to heal itself and the mechanisms in place to do so. Whenever there is an injury to the body it is aware immediately. There are nerves throughout that communicate back to the brain what is wrong and takes immediate action.

A Seven in the Good Samaritan Story

As some people know, the story of the good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-35 is an allegory, not just a parable. I may discuss the nature of this allegory in another post; but here, I wanted to present one of the patterns that I have found in the story. This is a pattern of seven in verse 34 : 1) And [the Samaritan] went to him, [the injured Jew] 2) and bound up his wounds, 3) pouring in oil 4) and wine, 5) and set him on his own beast, 6) and brought him to an inn, 7) and took care of him. I am going to consider the Samaritan as a doctor. Here the doctor is aware that he has what is needed to take care of the wounded man and is willing to help. The doctor must bind up the wounds to prevent further damage to them. Oil, probably olive oil, is an ointment which both soothes and nourishes the healing tissues. Wine is a disinfectant with alcohol in it which may sting but certainly kills bacteria. The wounded man cannot walk, because he is half dead, so the doctor walks for him by
