Star in the East
Scripture Matthew 2:1-2: There came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he (the child) that is born King (the Messiah) of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Interpretations: for we have seen his star [while we were] in the east, and are come to worship him. for we have seen his star [which was] in the east, and are come to worship him. My Understanding: The first is the way I read it and implies that they saw the star in the west while they were in the east. Whereas, the second says that the star was in the east with them. Scripture Matthew 2:9-10: When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Interpretations: When they had heard the king, they departed; and [now let us explain how they got to this point], lo, the star, which they
