No Forgiveness in This World or The Next
This is how I search the scriptures: I look at multiple verses on the same topic and look at them in context and form my opinions from there.
This is a dark topic because it involves the only people who will never receive glory from God. There are five verses in scripture which indicate certain people who will never be forgiven by God.
Matt 12:31-32 - it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come
D&C 42:18 - shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come
D&C 84:41 - shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come
D&C 132:27 - shall not be forgiven in the world nor out of the world
D&C 76:32-38 - there is no forgiveness in this world nor in the world to come
In the New Testament we first hear about a sin that will never be forgiven. It says, "the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men... but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come." This implies that all other sins will be forgiven either in this life or in the next. We know through the gospel of Jesus Christ that forgiveness of sins only comes through faith in Jesus Christ, which leads to repentance, which leads to baptism, which leads to forgiveness. This means that either the Lord will not allow these people to have faith in Jesus Christ or they will choose not to. I tend to assume the second will be true in all cases; however, there is room in scripture for both. In this verse, I assume that the Lord does not cause the man to blaspheme or speak against the Holy Ghost but that the man chooses it of his own will.
The members of the Church of Jesus Christ are held to the commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill.' It says, "he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come." This appears to have nothing to do with the scripture in Matthew except for the common phraseology.
"Whoso breaketh this covenant [of the priesthood which is the covenant of my Father] after he hath received it, and altogether turneth therefrom, shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come." This verse appears again to have nothing to do with the previous two verses. The phrase 'altogether turneth therefrom' implies that the man willingly breaks the covenant and chooses never to repent. I would take it a step further to say that it implies that he never repents up to his final judgement.
This next verse connects all three verses, "The blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, which shall not be forgiven in the world nor out of the world, is in that ye commit murder wherein ye shed innocent blood, and assent unto my death, after ye have received my new and everlasting covenant, saith the Lord God; and he that abideth not this law can in nowise enter into my glory, but shall be damned, saith the Lord." This verse has multiple ways of interpreting it. I have not studied it out sufficiently to know the correct interpretation that is going through my mind right now so I will leave it alone.
This last set of verses appears to put everyone spoken of above into one category, sons of perdition. These go to outer darkness and are the only ones who do not receive glory in the kingdom of God. Some have assumed that only men can be sons of perdition, but it is my opinion that woman can also be sons of perdition. This may sound counter-intuitive given the title 'sons', but this is my opinion. Woman have agency, can make and break covenants, and can altogether turn therefrom just as well as men. To say that woman can't reject God is saying also that they don't have the ability to choose to reject God, I don't believe this is true of anyone.
Thus saith the Lord concerning all those who know my power, and have been made partakers thereof, and suffered themselves through the power of the devil to be overcome, and to deny the truth and defy my power— They are they who are the sons of perdition, of whom I say that it had been better for them never to have been born; For they are vessels of wrath, doomed to suffer the wrath of God, with the devil and his angels in eternity; Concerning whom I have said there is no forgiveness in this world nor in the world to come— Having denied the Holy Spirit after having received it, and having denied the Only Begotten Son of the Father, having crucified him unto themselves and put him to an open shame. These are they who shall go away into the lake of fire and brimstone, with the devil and his angels— And the only ones on whom the second death shall have any power; Yea, verily, the only ones who shall not be redeemed in the due time of the Lord, after the sufferings of his wrath.
Everyone else will choose to have faith in Jesus Christ, in this life or the next, and follow the principles and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ, including baptism, and be forgiven and made spotless through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, as is required to enter into His kingdom and His rest, receiving a glory, telestial, terrestrial, or celestial, being obedient to at least the lowest of the laws of God.
